Tenth Kids Pastor/Director – UBC Point Grey

Summary: The UBC Kids Pastor/Director will work to create a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children (preschool to Grade 5) to learn, grow, and explore faith. This role will also work to support and partner with parents in helping to develop lifelong Jesus followers. This person will work to recruit, train, and equip teachers and helpers to participate in these creative learning environments.

Position: Part-Time (20 hours/week)


Working Relationships: Reports to Tenth UBC Site Pastor(s), is a member of the Tenth UBC Team, and is supported by the Pastor of Children’s Ministry and Tenth Kids Team.



  • Leads Tenth UBC Kids Ministry and Team:
    • Collaborates to create a fun dynamic team with the UBC Kids teachers/helpers and oversees, trains, and equips them.
    • Reviews weekly content for the site, making any additional adjustments, and connects with the Content Coordinator to ensure all materials and resources are sourced and available to teach weekly lessons.
    • Engages and identifies potential lay leaders to serve in Tenth UBC Kids.
    • Assists and oversees UBC Kids set up/tear down each Sunday, along with kid's rooms, check-ins, safety protocols, etc.
    • Communicates with teachers/helpers to ensure they understand the upcoming content and are ready to teach each week.
    • Instructs kids as required and attends Tenth’s UBC Sunday service, when able to do so.
    • Creates the teacher/helper rotation schedule for the site.
    • Works to design fun and interactive community engagement opportunities on campus and in the neighbourhood.
    • Builds an engaging and participatory learning environment for kids/families on-site.
    • Creates and oversees the Program and Activity Budget for Tenth UBC Kids, along with Site Pastor(s).
    • Ensures safety standards are implemented and maintained as prescribed in Plan to Protect*.
  • Spends 30-40% of weekly hours (approx. 4-6 hrs) connecting relationally and pastorally with UBC’s children, parents, and leaders outside Sunday service:
    • Checks in with Tenth Kids teachers/helpers to see how they are doing and to identify opportunities for further growth, encouragement, or support.
    • Connects with parents on Sundays (when in-person) and occasional one-on-one check-ins.
    • Intentionally welcomes new families into our community through phone calls, emails, coffees, and other relational opportunities.
    • Invites parents to “Parent Break” a once a month (+) social gathering on campus for encouragement, discussion, and relational connection.
    • Participates in Tenth UBC events to connect with children, their families, and caregivers.
    • Works to make connections with future teachers/helpers.
    • Directs high crisis pastoral issues to the Site Pastor(s) and the Pastor of Children’s Ministry.
  • Engages with Tenth Kids Central Support initiatives, at the site level:
    • Includes at-home integration, parent equipping, and events.
    • Sends weekly communications/newsletters to parents using templates provided by Tenth Kids Central Support.
    • Participates in teaching videos on rotation with other Kids pastors to engage kids/families online – Central Support organizes and provides all materials.
    • Attends and participates in parent resourcing, churchwide Tenth Kids events, site retreats, and utilizes resources provided by Central Support.
    • Communicates to the Pastor of Children's Ministry about content needs, parent support resources, or suggestions for events/opportunities at their site level.
  • Spends a maximum of 20% (approximately three hours) of monthly work hours in recurring staff meetings:
    • Attends weekly Tenth UBC Staff Meetings.
    • Participates in bi-weekly Tenth Kids Meeting.
    • Joins once a month for Tenth-wide Staff Meeting – Wednesday.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Family Ministries Diploma/Degree, Early Childhood Education Certificate, Bachelor of Education, or significant work experience with children.
  • Diploma of Christian Studies or theological education an asset.
  • Strong Computer skills (Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams); Planning Centre Online knowledge an asset.
